As a Harry Potter fan myself, I am constantly wondering…where would people in my Hogwarts house like to travel? Where would other houses like to travel? This thought has been in the back of my head as I have traveled around the world, and of course, reading and watching Harry Potter. So, here are my picks for where you should travel based on your Hogwarts house and their characteristics!
(I will post houses in alphabetical order as to not show preference!)
Gryffindor: Baños, Ecuador
The Hogwarts house of Gryffindor possesses traits such as courage, chivalry, and determination. In travel, this can translate to adventurous, almost adrenaline-junkie type people who aren’t swayed by something seemingly scary or a little dangerous. Therefore, Gryffindors should travel to Baños, Ecuador.
In Baños, adrenaline is what draws tourists in. Bridge jumping, white water rafting, and canyoning are all popular activities of this small Ecuador town. Gryffindors will love the action, and won’t be swayed by the potential difficulty in getting here by bus from Ecuador’s capital Quito.
Hufflepuff: Lisbon, Portugal
The Hogwarts house of Hufflepuff is known for their hard work, dedication, and fairness above other houses. As a Hufflepuff, you may be drawn to a destination more laid back, but still rich in history and things to do. Therefore, Hufflepuffs will enjoy the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
Lisbon is one of my favorite cities in the world. Known for their incredible food and laid back vibe, this city will be perfect for a member of the Hufflepuff Hogwarts house. The people in Lisbon are incredibly nice and friendly, and there is no shortage of things to do!
Ravenclaw: Madrid, Spain
Members of the Hogwarts house of Ravenclaw are known for their wit, learning, and wisdom. Ravenclaws may be drawn to destinations rich in history, museums, and art to quench their thirst for knowledge and learning new things. Therefore, Ravenclaws should book their next vacation in Madrid, Spain.
Madrid is Spain’s capital city, and a city rich in art and history. Best known for its “Golden Triangle”, Madrid houses three of the world’s best art museums. Each museum is so large, it takes nearly the entire day to complete! In addition to the art museums, Madrid has a rich culture in food and architecture as well.
Slytherin: New York City, USA
Our final Hogwarts house of Slytherin is known for their cunning, resourcefulness, and ambition. Slytherins have no problem brushing aside street scammers and navigating large cities with ease. They know what they want and will research exactly how to get it. Therefore, New York City is the destination for them!
New York is a top bucket list destination for many travelers, but it can be overwhelming. Not for Slytherins! They will know exactly what shows, museums, or clubs they want to see in the city. This Hogwarts house won’t be scared to spot and brush aside scammers in the City that Never Sleeps. Slytherins will love the grandeur of New York, and thoroughly enjoy the wide array of food, plays, museums, and clubs that could overwhelm other houses. You’ll fit right in!
All Hogwarts Houses!
No matter what your house, all Harry Potter fans should visit two destinations in their lifetime: London, England, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, USA.
Although I have not visited the Harry Potter studios in London, it is extremely high on my list! Here, visitors can walk through some of the filming sets for the movies and see original props and costumes!
Living in Florida for a number of years, I have visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida. It’s incredible! Here, visitors are plunged into scenic landscapes plucked right from the movies. The rides are incredible, and the Butterbeer flowing!
No matter what Hogwarts house you belong to, use those characteristics to find new places to explore! We may not get to visit the real Hogwarts castle, but travel will open a whole new world of adventures for you!
What’s your Hogwarts house? What do you think of where you should travel based on your Hogwarts house? Let me know!
Baños, Ecuador – Here I come! I am Gryffindor all the way!! :) Also- I live very close to Orlando, FL and have yet to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I know.. its embarrassing. It’s definitely on the list- I hear wonderful things about it!
It’s fantastic! I’m actually going there next month for my bachelorette party!
As a fellow Gryffindor you HAVE to go to Baños. So fun!
What a fun way to sort the houses, I’ve never seen this done for travel! :)
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Clever and fun, Stacia – some of my friends LOVE Madrid, so I’ve been eyeballing it as a possible destination (even though I’m a Hufflepuff) – What do you recommend as Must-Sees in Madrid??

I’m a Hufflepuff and Lisbon sounds like my kind of place! I LOVE a laid back vacation for sure!
Lisbon is one of my favorite cities in the world! I visited in January, so it was a bit too cold for the beaches, but there are plenty of them for the warmer months!
